Bishop Area, 2003
Bishop is located about an hour south of Mammoth, on the eastern side of the Sierras.
It is something of a climber's Mecca: long pumpy routes in the Owens River Gorge; world-class bouldering at the Happy and Sad Boulders and at the Buttermilks; a newly developed area in the Alabama Hills at Lone Pine; and higher routes on Alpine granite for when it's necessary to escape the summer heat.
Furthermore, hot springs are dotted about the area, allowing the climber to wash of some of the Gorge dust whilst surrounded by the spectacular backdrop of the Eastern Sierras.

The late wet spring of 2003 brought out an abundance of desert flowers in and around the Gorge
